Post-COVID, I found myself constantly chasing that ‘good yawn' …. I experienced relentless air hunger, constant yawning, chest tightness, and the exhausting cycle of chasing a ‘satisfying breath’ - while every medical test came back normal. It was confusing, isolating, and at times really frightening. I knew something wasn’t adding up.
That experience became a pivotal turning point in my life. I realised my symptoms weren’t caused by a lack of air - they were driven by my dysfunctional breathing pattern. My breathing had become fast and inefficient. I was relying on my upper chest muscles instead of my diaphragm to breathe. My body had simply forgotten how to breathe properly!
As a physiotherapist, I immersed myself in the science of dysfunctional breathing, carbon dioxide tolerance, and breathing retraining - not just to reset my own breathing pattern, but to deeply understand the mechanisms and science behind air hunger so I could help others overcome it too.
I attended every course and webinar on breathing pattern disorder and dysfunctional breathing patterns I could find, and read every research paper I could get my hands on.
From there, I became a breathing (respiratory) physiotherapist and The Breathing Physio was born! Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of people retrain their breathing, break the air hunger cycle, and finally breathe with ease again.
My journey has now led me into my post graduate research focused on the management of breathing pattern disorder!
What began as a debilitating personal struggle has become my life’s mission - to help people around the world overcome breathing pattern disorder and breathe with ease again.
Because I’ve lived it and overcome it.
